Heat wave

Yes it’s hot and the internet connection is bad so these posts will be short.

I thought I’d compare the skin of my hand to the bark of the ghost gums that are so prevalent here.  They have wrinkles where the joint of a branch turns.
There are so many eucalyptus here.  Some are like olive colored and others more véridian . They all create a beautiful patchwork of landscape.

Today we took an early morning hike before the heat.
We went to Kings Canyon and did the Rim hike.

Dancing ghost gum in Kings Canyon in Watarrka National park.
Eucalyptus leaves in the water.
In Kings Canyon these ripples in the rock are from an old seabed. The shear rock walls of the canyons were created from a split in the sandstone.

When a depression forms in the sandstone from pressure on both sides, we are talking millenium, water is held in these canyons making small gardens around the water.  This one is called the garden of Eden.

Most mornings we are met by birdsong but the Sulfer crested cockatoos are not very musical and the ring neck parrots aren’t either at least to our ears.  I will show some when they stand still long enough to let me take a picture. I saw an emu, wallaby, dingo and camels.

I love sitting in the campsite in the mornings.
Today we go to Ulluru.
