Tasmania and MONA
We are staying in a old 100 year old hotel in the town and we went to the MONA today. The MONA is a museum of old and new created by philanthropist David Walsh. You take a ferry that leaves from this pier right down the street and it is a 35 min. ride to the island it is built on. In a way this excursion kind of reminded me of the film “the menu”.
The two ferries that transport you are decorated with missles and animals.
We arrived and the instructions on how to visit are all on your downloaded app on your phone.
There are some world renowned artists exhibiting here and then some not known at all. Contemporary art is mixed with old egyptian artifacts and interesting objects.
This is from the exhibit by Tomas Saraceno who is a fascinating artist whose interests span the scope of spiders web building, to cosmic phenomenon and more.He also works with air balloons.
My favorite artist, James Turrell has a few mind numbing exhibits installed there too.
The whole museum is under ground and tunnels have been drilled in corridors threw the Triassic sandstone with rooms filled with strange and sometimes erotic art.
Water falling spelling out different words.
Shag chairs and couches that emit animal sounds in front of a assortiment of female genitalia molds.
In the bathrooms I was sitting on the toilet and saw some mirrors in strange places that reflected guess what, yours truly from down south into a mirror. Surprising! I’ve never seen myself from that point of view.
Unbeknownst to me here is a link on how it played out.
Fish swimming in some exhibit boxes.
A fat car. Porsche.

Another of my favorite artists, Tinguely.
This is an aspect of the exterior when arriving. There are always bands and outdoor musicians to listen to when you need a break. “The only meat we serve is you”. All vegetarian food on the premises.

The guy Walsh is a real personality. He made his money as a professional gambler. “I don’t believe in sin” one of his quotes.
